Geneva
I began spending time in Geneva only recently. Prior to my move to Switzerland I’d seen the city only once, backpacking through in the late 1970s, in the summer after my first year in college. I didn’t remember much from that visit except an unpleasant interaction with a shopkeeper, so I was delighted to replace that memory with those of my visits to my good friend Olivia, who moved there from Bern. For a brief time I took a position at the University of Geneva and so had reason not just to visit but to stay overnight. Olivia, like me, is a walker and a photographer (much more skilled than I) and so we walked to work by the lake in the morning and spent a lot of time out and about after work.
My fascination with bodies of water continues unabated, Lake Geneva is an ever-changing subject, beautiful in each of its many moods, bright or stormy, day or night. The city itself is large, international, and varied in neighborhood and architecture. I’m always spotting some odd feature I’ve never run across before.
